A power outage is scheduled at SSMC3 on Saturday 20 December 2014 starting
at 1030Z (5:30 AM EST).  The primary impact of the power outage will be
that the NOAA-wide internet capacity will be cut in half, so slow internet
performance will be likely during the outage.  During the outage, the
Silver Spring WOC will be shut down because they reside in SSMC3.  In
addition, NIDS will shut down the Silver Spring systems and to divert web
traffic to a different web farm, in order to mitigate the impacts on the
internet traffic.  The work will begin at a relative lull time in NWS
internet traffic, which should also help to mitigate the internet
impacts. The outage is scheduled to end at 2330Z (6:30 PM EST).
