I know that this will be of interest to the MEG mailing list. Many
of you took the first round of verification metrics surveys in October -
the results are available, and we hope that you will take the second round
(linked below). Please also consider participating in the February
workshop:
Registration is open for the DTC UFS Evaluation Metrics Workshop to be held
remotely Feb 22-24, 2021. Please visit the Workshop website to learn more
and register today!

The summary of the results of Survey 1
<https://dtcenter.org/events/2021/2021-dtc-ufs-evaluation-metrics-workshop/pre-workshop-survey-1>
is also available on the Workshop website.
Survey 2
<https://dtcenter.org/events/2021/2021-dtc-ufs-evaluation-metrics-workshop/pre-workshop-survey-2>
is now open and recording responses until Wed. Jan 6th. Please take 10-20
minutes to provide your input on critical spatial and temporal attributes
of the top fields identified in Survey 1. Survey 2
<https://dtcenter.org/events/2021/2021-dtc-ufs-evaluation-metrics-workshop/pre-workshop-survey-2>
is broken down into 9 applications including:
-
Short Range Weather/Convection Allowing Model
-
Medium Range Weather
-
Subseasonal
-
Seasonal
-
Air Quality/Composition
-
Cryosphere
-
Hurricane
-
Marine and Coastal
-
Space Weather
Similar to Survey 1, aspects of Aviation and Air Quality metrics are
included in the Short Range survey. Also, aspects of Land Surface and
Hydrology applications are included in the Short Range, Medium Range,
Subseasonal, and Seasonal surveys.
The goal of the workshop is to identify and prioritize key metrics to use
for evaluating the Unified Forecast System (UFS) <https://ufscommunity.org/>
research products and establish their readiness to move from one research
stage to another prior to becoming an operational candidate. Thank you for
joining a diverse set of stakeholders across government, academic,
commercial/private sectors, and other stakeholders in helping define the
priorities!
